About Air Curtain Heaters

An over door heater sits above an entrance and pushes a curtain of warm air downwards, forming a barrier between inside and outside. It keeps heat in and draughts, dust and insects out while the door stays open, which is why shops, cafes and warehouses fit them.

We stock Dimplex and deXpro screen heaters at 3kW for a single door or small shop entrance and 6kW for double doors and wider commercial frontages, with remote and app control for units mounted above head height.

Frequently Asked Questions

It creates a moving barrier of air across an open doorway, so warm inside air and cold outside air stay separated. The heat is a secondary benefit. The main job is the barrier.
A propped open door is an invitation to customers and a hole in the heating budget. An air curtain lets you keep the door open without heating the street, cuts the cold draught staff stand in all day, and reduces the dust and insects drawn in on the airflow.
At minimum, one as wide as the doorway. A narrower unit leaves gaps at the edges where air crosses freely, which defeats the purpose. Measure the door width first and choose a unit to match or exceed it.
3kW suits a single domestic width door, a small shop entrance or an office lobby. 6kW suits double doors, wider retail frontages and commercial entrances with heavy footfall. For anything wider still, units are commonly installed side by side.
Yes. A higher mount needs more output to maintain the barrier down at floor level, so a unit that works at standard door height may underperform above a tall opening. Check the maximum mounting height in the specification before ordering.
In premises that keep the door open during trading hours, usually yes, because the alternative is heating the doorway continuously. Where the door stays shut, the case is much weaker.
Control matters more here than elsewhere, because these are mounted above head height where nobody can reach a switch. Models are available with a remote control or with app control from a phone, which is the practical way for staff to change settings through the trading day.
No. It is designed to hold a barrier at an entrance, not to bring a room up to temperature. Pair it with panel heaters or downflow heaters for the space itself.
Yes. They are hard wired, mounted at height, and at 3kW and above draw enough current to need proper cabling. Use a qualified electrician, and expect the usual electrical certification requirements in commercial premises.
